Germany’s 2025 Ligne et Couleur contribution was "Irrwedge - Wrong Turns", for which the organisers chose a unique and spectacular exhibition venue in one of the largest underground complexes in Stuttgart from World War II. With an area of 3,158 m2, the Kulturbunker was capable of providing shelter for over 1,000 people.
Deep under a square in the centre of the city, the U-shaped bunker consists of three wings, the infirmary, a second wing with sleeping cells and the third, the functioning command centre for the city. Today, the infirmary wing is for concerts, exhibitions, cultural exchange and experience. Revealed to visitors for the first time, the smaller individual cells and lounge area contributed the additional spaces. Offering more than 60 works and 50 international and regional artists, this atmospheric complex provided a concrete catalyst cocoon in which paintings, drawings, photography, film, sound and installations blossomed. Young students and graduates from the University of Stuttgart were invited to add their works, alongside artists from Ligne et Couleur associates from France, Italy, Poland and Scotland. An international group project was created from postcards to show the diversity of our community across borders.
Members of the Scottish Society of Architect Artists were proud and privileged to participate. The Exhibition was opened and introduced by Michael Lüthy, Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History abk - State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.
The Scottish Society of Architect Artists acknowledge with sincerest thanks and kindest regards, the outstanding logistical support by Silja Riethmüeller and her team in ensuring we did indeed participate.
