Art by artists from the architectural professions of Scotland

Affiliations

Throughout Europe architect artists have maintained enthusiasm and skills in the wider visual arts through the international association, "Ligne et Couleur". This group was formed in Paris in 1935 and subsequently established other sister societies around Europe. The Scottish Society of Architect Artists was founded in 1987 by Edinburgh architect Hamish Haswell-Smith and has maintained strong reciprocal arrangements with "Ligne et Couleur" counterparts in France, Germany, Italy and Poland.

Our Scottish members are regularly invited to exhibit across Europe and we try to help our artists navigate the tricky process of sending valuable artworks abroad while negotiating customs and import taxes. If possible we can sometimes help collate the artworks and send them over in a single package.

The opportunity to exhibit abroad and possibly also travel to meet our fellow European architect artists is a huge benefit of SSAA membership and we would encourage everyone to participate.

The SSAA is also affiliated to the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), the professional body for all chartered architects in Scotland and the foremost institute in the country for architecture and the built environment.
