Art by artists from the architectural professions of Scotland

Chris Souter

Chris' architectural background ranged from conservation work to healthcare related projects, with a strong interest in materials and craft skills. She has a strong interest in the overlapping connections between science and art, together with how people interact with the environment.

Chris is Edinburgh based with links to NE Scotland and Orkney whose locations often provide inspiration. Her primary interest is in drawing – taking a line for a walk, to capture form, movement and at times to clarify an image while trying to capture the quality of the setting with its inhabitants through mood, movement, sounds and attitude.

She has ongoing experiments with printmaking based on observational sketches, together with collage and painting, using prints such as monoprints, woodcuts and screenprints to convey the sense of the initial drawings. Chris also has occasional forages/forays into glasswork, metalwork and casting to explore working with different materials.
